Monteverde {Costa Rica Day 5}

Depart tot le matin pour les ponts suspendus dans la foret. Vraiment magique, une sérénité incroyable!
We went early in the morning into the "Cloud Forest", Monteverde National Park, the hanging bridges. It's really magical, serene and peaceful.

L'apres midi etait plus relaxante, nous avons visite les grenouilles.

The afternoon was lazy, we visited the "frog pond".

La rainette aux yeux rouges, c'est un peu l'emblème du Costa Rica. Elle est non venimeuse et vit la nuit grace a ses yeux, du moins a son iris noir qui est vertical comme celui du chat.

Pendant la reproduction, le male plus petit se met sur la femelle et fertilise les 30 a 50 oeufs qu'elle porte, mais ca peut durer plusieurs jours...

During the reproduction, the male is on the female's back and fertilize the 30 to 50 eggs she carries, this can take days...

Monteverde

Monteverde {Costa Rica day 4}

Route pour Monteverde, "la foret aux nuages". J'avais passe pas mal de temps a lire les forums concernant cette portion de route entre Arenal et Monteverde... Plusieurs disaient que c'etait deconseille car tres long, effectivement il faut contourner le lac Arenal. Beaucoup de personnes prennent le "jeep/boat/jeep" pour couper le temps de trajet mais comme on a notre propre voiture, on prend notre mal en patience.
En fait nous avons mis "que" 3h avec 40km de piste, ca c'etait la partie la moins cool, beaucoup de nid de poules et de cailloux mais ca fait partie de l'aventure!

En route to Monteverde, the cloud forest. I spent a great amount of time on forums to see what travelers were saying about this portion of the trip Arenal/Monteverde. Lots of them recommend the jeep/boat/jeep to cross the Arenal Lake but as we have our own rental car, we just have to drive and be patient.
It took us "only" 3hours to reach Monteverde with 20miles or so of non paved road... Lots of potholes and rocks but it's part o the adventure!

Arenal La Fortuna {Costa Rica Day 3}

Petit Dej Costa Ricien une fois encore, fruits frais (qu'est ce qu'ils sont bons!), casado (le riz melange aux haricots rouges avec coriandre), un peu d'omelette par ci, un peu de toasts par la... C'est qu'ils faut se remplir les bidons car on a une journee chargee! Direction La Fortuna Waterfall tres reputee, tyrelienne et sources thermales!

Once again a good Costa Rican breakfast, fresh fruits (they are sooo good), casado (the mix with rice and red beans), some omelet here, some toasts there.... We have to fill our bellies because we have a long day ahead! Direction La Fortuna Waterfall very famous in this area, zip lining and hot springs!

C'est parti pour la tyrelienne, les enfants ne sont pas rassures, moi non plus mais on prend sur nous.

Beaucoup de rires et de bons moments, les enfants voulaient le refaire! C'est une facon geniale de voir le Costa Rica différemment.

Loads of fun and good memories, the kids wanted to do it again! It's a great way to see the country differently.

Volcan Poas {Costa Rica Day 2}

Apres un enorme petit dejeuner, en route pour le volcan Poas... Malheureusement, le temps pluvieux nous empeche de voir le cratere, mais la marche fut bonne et revigorante!

After a gigantic breakfast, en route for the Volcan Poas... Unfortunately, the very rainy weather will not permit to view the crater, the hike was great and energizing.

Apres 2h de marche nous continuons la route sur la region de La Fortuna, le volcan Arenal, toujours actif. Nous arrivons apres 2h30 de route tranquille, l'hotel Mountain Paradise est tres beau (rho je suis forte) et nous sirotons des mojitos au bar de la piscine chauffee toute l'apres midi...Pura Vida comme ils disent! Malheureusement, encore une fois, le volcan se cachera sous un gros manteau de nuages et donc de pluie pendant 2 jours, pas grave, l'endroit a beaucoup de charme malgre tout. On apercoit des toucans et meme un paresseux.

After the walk, we continue to the region of la Fortuna, the Arenal Volcano, still active.
We arrive after 2h30 of a smooth drive, beautiful hotel Mountain Paradise (thank you) and nice afternoon in the pool, actually at the wet bar... sipping Mojitos... Pura Vida!
The weather was rainy again so the volcano was hiding under thick clouds, but that's ok, the region is beautiful and it adds to the charme. We spotted toucans and a sloth.

Hola Amigos! {Costa Rica Day 1}

2 ans et demi apres, me voila reviendue... Au moins le temps des vacances et de notre periple au Costa Rica. Ne vous rejouissez pas trop vite amigos, ce blog est plus un journal pour moi qu'une envie de le tenir au gout du jour.
After 2 years and a half, I'm back.... At least just for the time of our vacations and our road trip in Costa Rica. Do not enjoy yourself too much, it's not going to last, this blog is more like a diary for me to keep.

Apres un voyage assez long, 6h d'attente a Houston, nous voila arrives a Alajuela a 1h du mat'.
L'hotel que j'avais choisi est tout pres de l'aeroport et est un des hotels tenus par Pierre de "toutcostarica", une sorte de Tour Operator francais avec un super forum en ligne et grace auquel j'ai construit l'itineraire.
After a long day of traveling, 6 hours wait in Houston, we finally made it to Alajuela around 1am. The hotel I chose is close to the airport and is owned by Pierre who manages a French Tour Operator, his online forum is great and I could plan our road trip thanks to it.

Nous avons essaye le lendemain midi le "Soda" que vous voyez en rouge au coin de la rue.. Le soda du Costa Rica est un petit endroit, en general un coin de magasin ou meme chez l'habitant, qui ne paye pas de mine mais qui en general est tres bon. Ils servent toujours un peu la meme chose, du riz et des haricots noirs qu'on appelle "casado", une tortilla de mais, choix de viande (poulet, porc, beef) et tout ca pour $4. Plus il y a de Ticos qui y mangent mieux c'est! Les Ticos sont les Costa Riciens.

The day after we arrive and after a good half night sleep, we tried the "Soda", the red shop around the corner on the second picture. The Soda is a tiny place where the owner is preparing and serving food, it's the place where Costa Rican (Ticos) usually eat, it's always the same : a plate of  rice, red beans (Casado), corn tortilla and your choice of beef, pork or chicken for only $4.  It's usually very good and great after or before a long hike.

Cet apres midi la, apres un bon dejeuner, nous avons pris la route pour La paz, pres du volcan Poas. 45 minutes de route plutot sympa. L'hotel que j'avais choisi etait super (je m'auto felicite hein), les enfants ont bien joue dans le jardin et ont meme bu du lait de la vache que le paysan etait en train de traire. la vue etait superbe. Le seul probleme... un vent a decorner les boeufs, jamais vu ca! J'ai mal dormi tellement j'avais peur que notre batisse ne tienne pas le choc. enfin apparemment les locaux sont habitues.
That afternoon, we drove to La Paz, close to the volcano Poas. The drive is about 45min and smooth. I had made a previous reservation to this hotel, what a great choice ( don't mind if I congratulate myself). The kids loved it. The place was beautiful, the small apartment had everything we needed. Only problem, the wind... Geez, I've never experienced such strong winds, I could hardly sleep, I was just praying that the building would stay.

Il nous reste quelques heures avant la tombee de la nuit (18h ici) donc nous partons visiter  La Paz Waterfall Gardens. C'est une reserve ou ils prennent soin de animaux locaux qui ne pourraient pas vivre sauvagement, enfin c'est ce qu'ils disent... Il y a aussi un jardin a papillons et un pour les colibris. C'est tres beau. Suivez les photos!

Before the sunset that starts around 6pm, we visited La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a sanctuary where they take care of animals that couldn't survive in the wild. There are also a butterfly garden and a hummingbird one.
That was beautiful, follow the pictures!

 And of course the waterfall! Et biensur la cascade!
